Jio Vichaar Entrepreneurship Challenge

The Jio Vichaar Entrepreneurship Challenge (JVEC) brings together a dynamic community of secondary school innovators and entrepreneurs in India to develop extraordinary and viable solutions to impact our world in one of five areas: Culture, Community, Connectivity, and Open category.

Brought together by Reliance Jio, the leading company for mobile innovation in India, Next Genius Foundation, the largest undergraduate study abroad scholarship fund, and Wheaton College, the leading institution in the United States linking social entrepreneurship to the liberal arts, this annual competition challenges teams to think outside the box and develop innovative ventures that will make an impact in India.

The Jio Vichaar Entrepreneurship Challenge is a secondary school entrepreneurship competition bringing together a community of youth entrepreneurial thinkers and doers who collaborate to envision a better India. Through leadership, creativity, innovation, problem solving, and critical thinking, teams develop ideas that will make an impact.

Teams compete for the opportunity to be recognized as Jio Scholars in addition to anticipated awards from sponsors that may include investment opportunities, scholarship opportunities, internships, business services and scholarships to support the scholars as well as the growth of their solutions into a real business.

If you have been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to exercise your creativity, make an impact and bring your idea to life, then the Jio Vichaar Entrepreneurship Challenge is just for you!

Who can participate?

The Jio Vichaar Entrepreneurship Challenge invites students in 9th-12th grade to work together in teams of 2 to 5 members to use innovation and entrepreneurship to develop solutions to the problems faced in India and to create the India they envision. Along the way, expert coaches from Wheaton College and top entrepreneurial leaders in India will be there to guide teams’ innovative ideas.

When will the competition take place?

The 2019 Jio Vichaar Entrepreneurship Challenge officially opens with registration and initial idea submission starting on August 28, 2019 culminating with the JVEC Summit on June 6-7, 2020 at the Ambani School in Mumbai, India.

How do you advance in the competition?

Round 1 (initial phase/video submission) and Round 2 (semi-final/business plan) of the competition are conducted completely online. First, student teams will register and submit a 1 minute and 30 second video.

Next, semi-finalists in each category will be announced and invited to the second phase of the competition where they will access instructional videos on the Wheaton Way platform, receive coaching and mentoring from Wheaton College coaches, and complete an in-depth business plan for their product/service.

In the final round, the top 5 teams in each category will be given the opportunity to present their innovations in-person to a panel of expert judges. JVEC recruits judges from among the best in industry, government, research and academia in India.
